IPL 2026: LSGs 21 Crore Player Struggles with Batting Performance

New Delhi, April 15: The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have had a mixed performance in IPL 2026. While their bowling has impressed, the batting has been disappointing. The team boasts several big names in its top order, yet many have failed to perform to expectations. Among them is a player who commands a fee of 21 crore but has not scored even 21 runs in a single innings this season.

We are talking about LSG’s explosive left-handed batsman, Nicholas Pooran. Regarded as one of the most dangerous batsmen in the T20 format, Pooran’s bat has been silent in IPL 2026. In four matches, he has managed only 41 runs, with a highest score of 19. Pooran bats in the middle order and is capable of dominating opposition teams single-handedly, as he has done in previous seasons. However, his form has been a concern this year.

Pooran’s struggles have become a significant issue for the team. His disappointing performance has left LSG’s middle order looking vulnerable. The pressure on younger batsmen is mounting, and they have often failed to cope with it.

Currently, LSG sits seventh in the standings with two wins from four matches. This figure could have been worse if not for Mukul Chaudhary’s memorable innings against the Kolkata Knight Riders. For LSG to secure a playoff spot in the upcoming matches, Pooran’s return to form is crucial.

LSG acquired Pooran for 16 crore in 2023 and retained him for 21 crore before IPL 2025. In the previous season, he scored 524 runs at a strike rate of 196.25 over 14 matches. Across 94 IPL matches, Pooran has hit 14 half-centuries, averaging 32.87 with a career total of 2,334 runs. His overall strike rate stands at 166.12. For LSG to improve in IPL 2026, Pooran’s resurgence is essential, as no other batsman can deliver what he can.
