IPL 2026: KL Rahuls Efforts Fall Short as GT Edges DC by Just 1 Run

New Delhi, April 9: Delhi Capitals narrowly missed securing a hat-trick of victories in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. In the 14th match of the season held at Arun Jaitley Stadium, DC faced a close defeat against Gujarat Titans (GT) by just 1 run on Wednesday.

DC had previously won their first two matches against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Mumbai Indians (MI) by margins of 6 wickets each. Currently, DC stands fourth in the points table. In contrast, GT had lost their initial two matches against Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals but finally opened their account with this win, moving up to sixth place in the standings.

Batting first after losing the toss, Gujarat Titans scored 210 runs, losing 4 wickets in the process. They faced an early setback at 19 runs when Sai Sudharsan (12) was dismissed. Captain Shubman Gill then partnered with Jos Buttler to add 60 runs for the second wicket in just 32 balls.

Buttler scored 52 runs off 27 balls, hitting 5 sixes and 3 fours before getting out. Gill continued the momentum, scoring 70 runs off 45 balls, including 5 sixes and 4 fours, in a 104-run partnership with Washington Sundar over 60 balls. Sundar contributed 55 runs off 32 balls with 8 boundaries. Mukesh Kumar claimed 2 wickets for the opposition, while Lungi Ngidi and Kuldeep Yadav took 1 wicket each.

In response, Delhi Capitals managed only 209 runs, losing 8 wickets. The opening pair of Pathum Nissanka and KL Rahul provided a solid start, with Nissanka scoring 41 runs off 24 balls, including 1 six and 6 fours.

In a dramatic turn, Rashid Khan dismissed Nitish Rana (5) and Sameer Rizvi (0) in the last two balls of the 10th over, putting DC in a precarious position. KL Rahul then took charge, adding 35 runs for the fourth wicket with David Miller.

Miller contributed 25 runs, while Rahul scored a commendable 92 runs off 52 balls, hitting 4 sixes and 11 fours. Tristan Stubbs added 7 runs to the total.

In the final over, DC needed 13 runs to win. Vipraj Nigam hit the first ball of Prasidh Krishna’s over for a four but lost his wicket on the next delivery. Kuldeep Yadav came in and took a single on the third ball.

Miller hit a six on the fourth ball, leaving the team needing 2 runs off the last two balls. However, Miller declined a single on the fifth ball, leading to a tense final ball where Kuldeep Yadav was run out. Consequently, GT clinched the match by just 1 run.

For the home team, Rashid Khan was the standout bowler, taking 3 wickets for 17 runs, while Prasidh Krishna claimed 2 wickets and Mohammad Siraj took 1 wicket.
