Innovative Solutions Workshop to Enhance Access to Justice at Kurukshetra University

New Delhi, March 21: An innovative solutions workshop aimed at enhancing access to justice is set to take place at Kurukshetra University on March 22 at 4:00 PM. This regional program is part of the Tele-Law initiative, organized by the Department of Justice under the Ministry of Law and Justice of the Government of India.

The workshop is designed to strengthen access to justice through technology-based legal services and promote informative discussions among key stakeholders. The event will commence with the arrival and welcome of distinguished guests, followed by the flagging off of the Disha awareness van, symbolizing outreach and connection to the grassroots. A ceremonial lamp lighting will also take place.

A special highlight of the program will be the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the national song “Vande Mataram,” which will be performed by local artists, honoring its historical and cultural significance in India’s freedom movement.

The Secretary of the Department of Justice will deliver a welcome address, outlining the context of the workshop. Following this, there will be a session showcasing the progress of the Disha scheme in Haryana, featuring direct interactions with Tele-Law panel lawyers, grassroots entrepreneurs, and beneficiaries, illustrating the impact of technology-based legal services at the community level.

The program will also include a segment on free legal services initiated by law colleges in Haryana, where faculty members and students will share their experiences in community legal service.

As part of the event, five e-books on customary laws from India’s northeastern region will be formally released, contributing to the preservation and dissemination of indigenous legal knowledge. Additionally, a documentary on the Disha scheme will be launched, highlighting its conception, implementation, and nationwide impact.

The workshop will be addressed by Arjun Ram Meghwal, the Minister of State for Law and Justice, and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini. Both leaders will share their insights on strengthening access to justice and the role of digital intervention in governance.

The event will conclude with the distribution of mementos, followed by a vote of thanks from the Joint Secretary and the national anthem.

Approximately 900 participants will attend in person, including officials from the Punjab and Haryana High Courts, Haryana State Legal Services Authority, advocates from bar associations, government lawyers, grassroots entrepreneurs from Common Service Centers (CSCs), Tele-Law panel lawyers, and faculty from various law universities. Additionally, many citizens and stakeholders from the Department of Justice will join virtually.

This regional conference and workshop, part of the Tele-Law program under the Disha scheme, is a significant effort by the Government of India to enhance access to justice through awareness, capacity building, and technology-based service delivery. Such regional workshops are being conducted nationwide to involve state administration and stakeholders, review implementation progress, and further strengthen the justice delivery system.

The workshop in Kurukshetra provides a crucial platform for focused discussions aimed at improving the reach and effectiveness of Tele-Law and other related initiatives.
