Social media influencer Aamir Shokeen has been arrested for alleged racial abuse against a youth from Tripura, following a viral video.

New Delhi, October 22 (Daily Kiran) : Social media influencer Aamir Shokeen was arrested by Delhi police on Thursday in connection with allegations of racial abuse against a young man from Tripura. The arrest occurred just hours after a first information report (FIR) was filed against him, prompted by a viral video circulating on social media.
The police registered the case at the Sadar Bazar police station under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 192, 196, 352, and 353. Following the emergence of the controversial video, which sparked public outrage, Shokeen issued an apology. In a Facebook post, he claimed the video was scripted and that the individual featured was an acquaintance.
Shokeen stated that the person had previously worked at a café owned by a friend in Ahmedabad. He described the conversation in the video as humorous, asserting that there was no intent to insult anyone.
Authorities noted that Shokeen has a history of legal troubles, with prior FIRs filed against him under sections 323, 324, 504, and 506 of the IPC. The Tripura police had also initiated legal proceedings against him concerning this incident.
The case against Shokeen was formally lodged after a complaint by the Tripura Students Forum Delhi (TSFD). The organization urged the police to take immediate action, file an FIR, and conduct a prompt investigation. Central Minister Kiren Rijiju also raised the issue on social media, bringing it further into the public eye.
In their complaint, the TSFD referenced a video circulating on Instagram, alleging that it depicted sexual abuse, harassment, and derogatory behavior toward a person from Tripura. They emphasized that if the allegations are substantiated, it raises serious concerns regarding the dignity, bodily autonomy, and safety of individuals, highlighting the need to protect people from Northeast India from racial discrimination and harassment.
