New Delhi, March 3: In response to the evolving situation in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf, Indigo Airlines has initiated services to evacuate individuals stranded in the region. The airline is coordinating with relevant authorities and governments in India to commence select flights.
According to Indigo’s statement, four flights are currently heading to Jeddah, with an additional flight expected to operate later in the day to Muscat.
Starting Wednesday, more scheduled flights and increased seat capacity will be made available. Indigo plans to carefully relaunch select flights while prioritizing safety.
Operations are expected to resume at various locations in the Middle East, including Muscat, Jeddah, and Medina, as well as in Europe, specifically Athens, depending on current airspace conditions and necessary approvals. A total of 13 return flights (26 sectors) are planned.
The airline stated, “Return flights to UAE stations are being arranged for March 4. However, this will depend on local conditions and required approvals, and confirmation will follow as the situation evolves.”
Indigo is closely monitoring the situation at all other stations and is working with local authorities on slots and permits to gradually restart its operational schedule. The airline continues to update its social media platforms and website with the latest status. Amid this highly unstable situation, the safety of Indigo’s customers, crew, and aircraft remains the top priority.
Meanwhile, UAE-based airlines Emirates and Etihad Airways resumed a limited number of flights starting the evening of March 2, following the partial reopening of Dubai airports after disruptions caused by the conflict between the US-Israel alliance and Iran.
Emirates has indicated that customers with existing bookings will be prioritized as services are gradually resumed. The airline will directly contact passengers who have been rebooked on these limited flights and advised, “Please do not go to the airport until you are informed.”
Dubai’s airline stated that all other flights will remain suspended until further notice and that it is monitoring the situation to adjust its operational schedule accordingly.
Dubai Airports confirmed that limited flights would be permitted from Dubai International (DXB) and Dubai World Central Al Maktoum International (DWC).
However, the UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority noted, “Extraordinary flights are now operating at UAE airports. Please do not go to the airport until your airline contacts you with confirmed flight details.”
