Indias Young Boxers Shine at Asian Under-15 and Under-17 Championships

Tashkent, May 6: At the ongoing Asian Boxing Under-15 and Under-17 Championships 2026 in Uzbekistan’s Tashkent, Indian young boxers have secured an impressive 27 medals out of 30 in the Under-15 category. Demonstrating their dominance, the girls’ Under-15 team won 14 out of 15 medals, while the boys’ team claimed 13 out of 15 medals.

Following this remarkable achievement, Indian boys delivered another stellar performance, including several wins by Referee Stops Contest (RSC). Sastha Vasant Ashok Kumar (37 kg) and Prashant (49 kg) made aggressive starts, defeating their UAE opponents, Mohammad Al-Bannai and Mayed Al-Yammahi, in the first round via RSC.

Nitin (40 kg) and Harshvardhan Jeena (55 kg) also showcased India’s strength, winning against Kazakhstan’s Sayat Mengdibe and Tajikistan’s Muhammad Fojilov in the second round by RSC.

In closely contested bouts, Yash Kumar (33 kg) and Rohit Pothina (35 kg) faced tough opponents but executed their strategies well, winning against Tajikistan’s Rasuljon Karimov and Mongolia’s Temulen Munkhbayar with a split decision of 4:1.

The team recorded a series of unanimous decisions, proving their technical superiority. Sameer Bohra (43 kg) defeated Thailand’s Yarm with a score of 5:0. Nongpokongnaba Meitei Oina (46 kg) also achieved a similar impressive victory against Mongolia’s Munkh-Ochir Ganzorig, winning 5:0. Concluding this outstanding day, Mohammad Yasar (58 kg) impressed the judges with a 5:0 victory over Kazakhstan’s Meirlan Beisekhan.

With 27 medals officially secured and showcasing the unparalleled strength and skill of the boxers across various weight categories, the Indian contingent has firmly established its dominance in Asian boxing as the championship progresses.

Earlier in the boys’ Under-15 competition, Nongpokongnaba Meitei Oina (46 kg) achieved a remarkable 5:0 victory over Kazakhstan’s Abdurakhman Vushanlo, while Prashant (49 kg) mirrored this result with a decisive win against Bakdaulet Akhmet.

Mohammad Yasar (58 kg) caught everyone’s attention with his powerful performance, winning his bout against Kyrgyzstan’s Akbarjan Nabidjanov by RSC in the first round. Nivesh Pal (54 kg) also impressed with a 5:0 victory over Kazakhstan’s Adilat Galiyev, while Ranveer (66 kg) advanced to the next round after a walkover win against Chinese Taipei’s Ying-Chieh Chen.

In other matches, Lilamani Singh (61 kg) lost to Uzbekistan’s Azizbek Agambarganov by RSC in the third round, and Mehul Rana (70 kg) faced an RSC defeat against Kazakhstan’s Ayan Baurzhan in the opening round.
