London, May 17: India’s High Commissioner to the UK, Periasamy Kumaran, has released his first video message since taking office. He discussed preparations for the upcoming International Yoga Day 2026.
In his inaugural public address, Kumaran emphasized strengthening the partnership between India and the United Kingdom. He expressed enthusiasm for the celebrations planned across the UK, stating that this event will be a significant opportunity to promote health, harmony, and shared values under the theme “One Earth, One Health.”
Kumaran remarked that assuming this new role is a special honor and privilege. He expressed joy that one of his first major public events will be the International Yoga Day 2026 celebrations throughout the UK.
He described yoga as “one of India’s most precious gifts to the world,” highlighting its timeless tradition that fosters harmony, balance, mindfulness, and health. Today, yoga is embraced globally, reflecting India’s civilizational ethos of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”—meaning “the whole world is one family.”
This year’s theme beautifully encapsulates the Indian belief that individual health and the health of our planet are deeply interconnected. He added that they are eager to collaborate with friends and partners in the UK to make this year’s celebrations broader, more inclusive, and memorable.
Kumaran invited the UK to join in this unprecedented celebration, concluding with a heartfelt invitation for everyone to celebrate the spirit of yoga and its messages of health, unity, and harmony.
The 12th International Yoga Day will be celebrated on June 21, 2026. This year’s main theme is ‘Yoga for Wellness, Wisdom, and World Peace.’ In line with this, the Ministry of AYUSH has launched ten specific yoga protocols to address non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and hypertension.
