Indias Deep Tech Ecosystem in Agriculture and Water Management Gains Momentum, Says NASSCOM

New Delhi, June 12: The National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM) announced on Friday that India’s deep tech ecosystem related to agriculture and water management is rapidly strengthening. An increasing number of startups are now shifting focus from pilot projects to large-scale business expansion and growth.

During the ‘Deep Tech Confluence 2026’ event held in New Delhi, NASSCOM highlighted this trend, noting that innovations driven by artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), biotechnology, and climate technologies are attracting significant attention from enterprises, investors, and policymakers seeking scalable solutions to challenges in the agricultural and water sectors.

Addressing the event, NASSCOM’s Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer, Sangeeta Gupta, emphasized that agriculture and water management are two critical areas where deep tech can have a substantial economic, environmental, and social impact.

She stated, “India has a strong foundation of entrepreneurs who are developing new solutions by integrating AI, IoT, biotechnology, material science, sensor technology, automation, and climate technologies.”

Gupta also mentioned that through the Deep Tech Confluence, NASSCOM is providing startups with better market access, industry engagement, and opportunities for effective technology implementation.

The event showcased solutions from 12 innovative startups connected to NASSCOM’s 20-week development program, ‘DTC Accelerate,’ aimed at transitioning deep tech startups from pilot projects to scalable industry applications.

The Deep Tech Confluence provided a platform for discussions on market access, technology adoption by industries, investment readiness, scaling pilot projects, and collaboration across various sectors.

This initiative comes at a time when India’s agriculture and water sectors are facing challenges such as climate change, sustainability concerns, limited resources, and the growing need to maintain production capacity.

While innovations in agri-tech and water-tech have surged in recent years, many startups still struggle to scale their technologies beyond pilot levels.

NASSCOM stated that the goal of the Deep Tech Confluence is to bridge this gap. It aims to connect innovative startups with industries, investors, government agencies, and implementation partners to facilitate real-world application and expansion of their technologies.
