Indian Womens Tennis Team Kicks Off Preparation Camp for Billie Jean King Cup

New Delhi, April 3: The Indian women’s tennis team has commenced a five-day preparation camp at the DLTA Stadium in New Delhi. The team is gearing up for the Billie Jean King Cup Group 1 – Asia/Oceania round-robin, with the primary goal of qualifying for the prestigious World Group for the third time.

The camp, running from April 1 to April 5, is a crucial phase ahead of the tournament scheduled from April 7 to April 11 at the same venue. Under the guidance of former player and captain Vishal Uppal, the team will focus on match fitness, practice singles and doubles combinations, and strengthen their on-court coordination. They will also acclimatize to the hard court environment, where a total of 15 matches will be played over five days.

India will face regional rivals ranging from New Zealand to the Republic of Korea. To boost team morale, the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association has decided to offer free entry to spectators at the center court.

The Indian team aims to maintain its momentum in this tournament. Last year, during the Billie Jean King Cup Asia and Oceania Group 1 qualifiers, the team delivered an impressive performance, defeating Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, and the Republic of Korea with a score of 2-1. This year, New Zealand, Indonesia, and Mongolia are also in the mix. Therefore, India must secure a top-2 finish to keep its hopes of reaching the World Group alive.

As the team progresses towards the qualifiers, all eyes are on their performance and taking a decisive step towards returning to the World Group for the third time. Leveraging home conditions and their recent form, India will strive to convert their impressive performance into a historic victory.
