London, July 18: The Indian cricket team has announced a significant change ahead of the third and decisive ODI match against England at Lord’s this Sunday. Harsh Dubey has been included in the squad to replace the injured Washington Sundar, as confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday.
Sundar sustained a right hamstring injury during the match played at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff on Thursday, ruling him out of the series’ final game. Reports indicated that Sundar would not be able to participate due to the strain, requiring several weeks of recovery.
The BCCI stated, “Washington sustained a right hamstring injury during the second ODI at Cardiff. He will miss the remaining matches of the series and will undergo scans for further treatment, consulting with a specialist.”
Harsh Dubey made his ODI debut in June this year. In his first match against Afghanistan, he took three wickets for 47 runs. He played a crucial role in India’s 1-0 victory over Sri Lanka-A in a red-ball series earlier in June, where he scored 30 and 29 runs in the first match, which ended in a draw before India won the subsequent match by 10 wickets. Now, he joins India’s ODI spin bowling department alongside all-rounder Axar Patel and wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav.
Following the ODI series against England, Harsh Dubey will head to Zimbabwe for a three-match series starting on July 23, with the remaining two matches scheduled for July 25 and 26 at Harare Sports Club.
The updated Indian squad for the third ODI includes: Shubman Gill (captain), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer (vice-captain), KL Rahul (wicketkeeper), Ishan Kishan (wicketkeeper), Axar Patel, Shivam Dubey, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, Arshdeep Singh, Gurnoor Barad, Prince Yadav, and Harsh Dubey.
