New Delhi, May 6: The Indian Golf Union (IGU) is sending a three-member team to participate in the Queen Sirikit Cup. This prestigious event will take place from May 12 to 15 at the Sentul Highlands Golf Club in Bogor, Indonesia.
The team will be led by Guntas Kaur Sandhu, the 2025 Ladies Order of Merit champion, who has shown consistent performance in 2026 as well. Other team members include Haryana’s Seerat Kang and Delhi’s Keya Badugu. Vandana Agarwal will accompany the team as the manager.
Organized by the Asian-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC) in collaboration with The R&A, the tournament will feature 15 countries, including reigning champions South Korea, along with Australia, China, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Guntas Kaur Sandhu boasts an impressive record with six wins and 17 top-10 finishes in 20 starts during the 2025-26 IGU season. Recently, she secured titles in both the Ladies and Joint A and B categories at the IGU West Bengal Ladies and Junior Girls Championship in April.
The Queen Sirikit Cup is officially known as the Amateur Ladies Asian-Pacific Invitational Golf Team Championship, named after the former queen of Thailand. The championship was inaugurated in 1979, and India has participated since its inception. In 2023, Avani Prashant won the individual title, ending a 43-year title drought for India.
This event, played over 54 holes, features teams of three players, with the two best scores from each day counted. The winning team earns direct entry into the R&A Girls Amateur.
The Queen Sirikit Cup has been a significant platform for many international star golfers at the start of their careers. Numerous players, including Minjee Lee, Hannah Green, Sarah Kemp, Fiona Xu, Atthaya Thitikul, Seo Kyo-rim, and Anna Parnaby, have emerged from this prestigious competition to make their mark in professional golf.
