Indian Stock Market Opens Higher Amid Mixed Global Signals

Mumbai, July 16: The Indian stock market opened with a slight gain on Thursday, buoyed by mixed global signals. The Sensex rose by 186 points, or 0.24%, reaching 77,388, while the Nifty increased by 63 points, or 0.26%, to settle at 24,142.

In early trading, IT stocks led the upward trend. The Nifty IT index was the top gainer, up by 1.80%. Other indices, including Nifty Consumer Durables, Nifty Consumption, Nifty Media, Nifty Auto, Nifty India Manufacturing, Nifty Services, Nifty Pharma, Nifty FMCG, Nifty Metal, Nifty Commodities, and Nifty Healthcare, also showed gains.

Conversely, indices such as Nifty India Defense, Nifty Realty, and Nifty Financial Services were in the red.

Among the gainers in the Sensex pack were HCL Tech, Maruti Suzuki, M&M, Tech Mahindra, Trent, Titan, TCS, Asian Paints, Power Grid, HUL, Indigo, Bajaj Finance, and UltraTech Cement. Losers included Axis Bank, Eternal, Sun Pharma, HDFC Bank, Bajaj Finserv, SBI, and L&T.

Experts suggest that the market is trading positively within a limited range due to stable crude oil prices and steady global markets. With several companies set to announce quarterly results in the coming days, the market may react to these outcomes.

Asian markets displayed mixed performance. Tokyo, Shanghai, and Seoul were in the red, while Hong Kong, Bangkok, and Jakarta showed gains. The U.S. stock market closed higher on Wednesday, with the Dow Jones up by 0.29% and the Nasdaq gaining 0.62%.

Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) remained net sellers, offloading equities worth ₹735.83 crore on Wednesday, while Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) invested ₹704.93 crore in equities.
