Nagoya, September 21 (Daily Kiran) : At the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya, Indian shooters delivered an impressive performance in the men’s 10-meter air rifle event, securing two medals on Monday. Himanshu Dhillon clinched the silver medal, while Rudraksh Patil took home the bronze.
Himanshu finished with a score of 252.4 points, placing him in second, while Rudraksh scored 230.9 points to secure third. The gold medal was won by China’s reigning Olympic champion, Sheng Lihao, who set a new Games record with a score of 254.2 points, successfully defending his title.
From the outset of the final featuring eight competitors, the Indian duo was in contention for medals. Rudraksh started strong, leading after the first ten shots with 106.0 points, followed closely by Sheng with 104.9 points and Himanshu with 104.8 points. Throughout the elimination rounds, both Indian shooters maintained their positions in the top two. Rudraksh held onto the lead, while Himanshu consistently scored well, including several 10.9 point shots, allowing him to move into second place. The competition saw the lead change frequently as Sheng narrowed the gap.
As the competition progressed and only four shooters remained, India’s double podium finish was assured after Mongolia’s Bayara Nyantai was eliminated. At that point, Sheng led with 211.6 points, followed by Rudraksh at 210.6 points and Himanshu at 210.0 points, guaranteeing India two medals.
The battle for silver and bronze then became a contest solely between the two Indian shooters. Himanshu extended his lead over Rudraksh with a score of 10.8 points, while Rudraksh scored 9.7 points, causing him to drop to third. Rudraksh attempted to recover with a shot of 10.6 points, but Himanshu maintained his position with a score of 10.4 points. Sheng secured the gold medal with a final shot of 10.6 points, concluding the event with a record score of 254.2. Himanshu, who had reduced Sheng’s lead to just 1.8 points with his penultimate shot, finished second with 252.4 points. Rudraksh earned the bronze with a total score of 230.9 points.
