Indian PMs Historic Visit to New Zealand: A New Direction for Bilateral Relations

Patna, July 11: Rajiv Ranjan Prasad, the national spokesperson for the Janata Dal United (JDU), shared insights on various topics, including India’s foreign policy, Indo-Pacific cooperation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to New Zealand, and global partnerships against terrorism. He emphasized the growing significance of the Indo-Pacific region in the current global landscape and the necessity for India to strengthen ties with countries in this area.

Prasad noted that India’s recent visit to Australia has yielded substantial benefits, and he anticipates positive outcomes from discussions and a potential joint declaration between India and New Zealand, two key Indo-Pacific nations.

He highlighted that while India and New Zealand have traditionally enjoyed good relations, it has been four decades since an Indian Prime Minister visited New Zealand. This visit is seen as a pivotal step towards revitalizing bilateral relations.

According to Prasad, Prime Minister Modi has focused on enhancing relationships with countries that share historical ties with India and where there are significant opportunities for trade, strategy, and economic collaboration. The aim is to further strengthen India’s role in the global economy.

When asked about the budget for Assam, he stated that it is a decision for the Assam government to make. Regarding Bihar, he clarified that the NDA government is not currently working on any such agenda or proposals.

Responding to the decision by Prashant Kishor’s party to change candidates in the Bankipur by-election, Prasad remarked that while this might have raised hopes, it also reflects their political immaturity. He asserted that Bankipur is a stronghold for the BJP and NDA, making it challenging to establish a political foothold there. Kishor faces the challenge of maintaining his political credibility and proving his position in the elections.

On the issue of terrorism, he stressed the need for a global partnership to combat this threat. He pointed out that no country can consider itself completely safe from the dangers of terrorism. Therefore, strengthening international cooperation is essential to effectively address this challenge.
