
Wellington, April 1: The Indian High Commissioner to New Zealand, Muanapui Saiyavi, presented her credentials to the Governor-General of New Zealand, Dame Cindy Kiro, on Wednesday. The Governor-General extended her best wishes to the Indian diplomat for her new role.
The ceremony began with a traditional Māori welcome.
The Indian High Commission in New Zealand shared on the social media platform X, “High Commissioner Muanapui Saiyavi presented her credentials to the Governor-General, the Right Honourable Dame Cindy Kiro, who wished her well in her new assignment. The credential presentation ceremony commenced with a traditional Māori welcome.”
At the invitation of the Governor-General, the High Commissioner sang the Indian patriotic song “Sare Jahan Se Achha” along with the Māori song “Waiata Te Aroha.” India and New Zealand are witnessing increased momentum in their existing multi-dimensional, cordial, and friendly bilateral relations.
On March 21, Muanapui Saiyavi assumed her duties at the Indian High Commission in New Zealand, where she was welcomed by the officials and staff.
Saiyavi previously served as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and was appointed as India’s High Commissioner to New Zealand in January. She is an Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer from the 2005 batch.
India and New Zealand have always enjoyed cordial and friendly relations. Diplomatic ties between the two countries were established in 1952. Both nations share several similarities, such as Commonwealth membership, similar legal systems, and aspirations for economic development and prosperity through democratic governance for diverse communities.
In October of last year, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon during the ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, reiterating the commitment to a secure Indo-Pacific region.
