
Selangor, July 29: The two-member Indian team sent by the Indian Golf Union (IGU), consisting of Seerat Kang and Guntas Kaur Sandhu, has successfully retained their positions in the top 10 after the second round of the prestigious Malaysia Ladies Amateur Open held in Selangor, Malaysia.
In the team championship, India currently stands in third place with a total score of four-over 292, trailing the leaders from Malaysia by four strokes.
Seerat from Panchkula finished the second day in sixth place with a score of one-over 71, bringing her total to one-over 145. Meanwhile, Guntas from Chandigarh scored two-over 74, placing her jointly in seventh position. Malaysia’s Amberly Jaira binti Jamra took the lead with an impressive five-over 67, totaling two-over 142.
This event features 54 golfers from 11 countries, including China, Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Brunei, South Korea, the Philippines, and Singapore.
The 19-year-old Seerat started her second round strongly, making three birdies on the front nine. However, bogeys on the 16th and 18th holes hindered her progress. Conversely, 15-year-old Guntas experienced a fluctuating round, scoring three birdies and two bogeys on the front nine, followed by one birdie and two bogeys on the back nine, resulting in her two-over 74.
Earlier, Guntas had an impressive opening round with a score of one-over 73, tying for second place with three other golfers. Seerat scored two-over 74 at the par-72 Glenmarie Golf and Country Club, finishing the first day in sixth place. Malaysia’s Fong Ji Yu led the opening round with a score of one-under 71. In the team championship, India is currently in third place with a total score of three-over 147.
This tournament is in its 40th edition and is being held at the Glenmarie Golf and Country Club. The three-round event features nearly 40 amateur golfers from 20 countries, with individual winners determined after 54 holes. The champion team will be decided based on the combined scores of two golfers after 36 holes.
