Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar Arrives in Atlanta for G20 Meeting Focused on Energy and Supply Chains
S. Jaishankar arrives in Atlanta for the G20 foreign ministers meeting, focusing on energy security and supply chain challenges.

Atlanta, October 30 (Daily Kiran) : Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar arrived in Atlanta on October 30 to participate in a two-day G20 foreign ministers’ meeting. The discussions will center on energy, supply chains, and maintaining open maritime routes, which are crucial for India’s imports of oil, LNG, and fertilizers.
During the meeting, Jaishankar is also expected to attend a Quad foreign ministers’ session. An official from the U.S. State Department emphasized the need for a collective commitment to address critical crises and ensure that key maritime routes remain open for trade without threats or tolls. This is vital not just for energy resources but also for fertilizers and food supplies.
The meeting is hosted by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. India is among the largest oil importers globally, and energy security has become a pressing issue due to ongoing conflicts in West Asia and disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz.
The U.S. official noted that energy is foundational for economic growth and must be both affordable and abundant. The supply chain for critical minerals is essential for energy security and advanced manufacturing, as are other supply chains, particularly for fertilizers, LNG, oil, and other raw materials.
Atlanta will serve as a platform to discuss energy and supply chain challenges and to identify ways to mitigate the effects of geopolitical tensions on economic security.
Ahead of the visit, Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal announced that Jaishankar would participate in the G20 meeting from October 30 to 31 and engage in several bilateral meetings with his counterparts.
Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong stated she would meet her counterparts from the U.S., India, and Japan for this year’s third Quad foreign ministers’ meeting. She highlighted Australia’s support for the EU-led ‘No Fees / No Tolls’ resolution against unlawful fees and tolls that threaten navigation freedom.
Notably, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is among the delegation heads attending the meeting, while China is sending Executive Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu instead of Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
The U.S. has also backed Poland’s full membership in the G20, with Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski attending the meeting. Other foreign ministers from Japan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the European Union, Brazil, and Canada are also participating.
Following the Atlanta meeting, Jaishankar will travel to Antigua and Barbuda for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting from November 1 to 4. The G20 Leaders’ Summit will be hosted by Trump in Miami on December 14-15. The last Quad foreign ministers’ meeting took place in New Delhi on May 26.
