Dubai, July 15: The Indian Embassy in the United Arab Emirates has expressed deep sorrow over the death of an Indian citizen in the attack on the commercial vessel MV GFS Galaxy on July 12, 2026. The embassy issued a statement assuring the victim’s family of all possible assistance.
In a statement released on X, the embassy said, “We express our heartfelt condolences on the death of an Indian citizen in the attack on the commercial vessel MV GFS Galaxy on July 12, 2026. The embassy is in contact with the grieving family and is coordinating closely with the relevant UAE authorities and the shipping company to provide all possible support.”
The attack occurred on Sunday near the coast of Oman, and since then, marine engineer Heramb Karmarkar from Pune had been reported missing. Information regarding this was revealed on Tuesday, and the confirmation of his death came from his family and father-in-law Vivek Tandon on Wednesday.
The commercial vessel GFS Galaxy, which was carrying Indian nationals, was attacked off the coast of Oman. Vivek Tandon, Karmarkar’s father-in-law, stated, “Our child was only 30 years old, not an elder. We request our government to ensure that our child’s body is handed over to us safely and brought home.”
Previously, India condemned this attack, labeling the ongoing incidents against commercial vessels in the region as “extremely concerning.”
The Ministry of External Affairs stated that the Indian Embassy in Oman is closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with Omani authorities in the ongoing search and rescue operations. The ministry also thanked Omani officials for their cooperation.
