
New Delhi, June 17: The Boxing World Cup (Stage 2) continues in China, where Indian boxers Nikhil, Deepak, and Sneha have secured victories, advancing to the next round in their respective weight categories. The event is taking place at the Guiyang Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium in Guiyang, China.
In the men’s 55-kilogram category, Nikhil triumphed over Brazil’s Kelvin Trindade with a unanimous 5-0 decision. Deepak, competing in the men’s 70-kilogram category, defeated Japan’s silver medalist from the 2025 World Championships, Sevon Okazawa, also by a score of 5-0. In the women’s 65-kilogram category, Sneha achieved a hard-fought victory against South Korea’s Sion Sujin, winning 4-1.
On the third day, other initial matches saw Malasawmtluanga (80 kilograms) face a 1-4 defeat against Jordan’s Ashaish Hussain, while Mahi Lama (60 kilograms) lost 0-5 to Mongolia’s Monkhor Namun, resulting in their exit from the tournament. Earlier, on the second day of competition, Indian boxers Jyoti, Prachi, and Nikhil had also secured wins to progress further.
Looking ahead, two Indian boxers will compete on Thursday. In the women’s category, Meenakshi (51 kilograms) will face Poland’s Natalia Kuczewska, while Avinash Jamwal (65 kilograms) will go up against Kyrgyzstan’s Mirzokhid Imamazarov.
