
New Delhi, March 13: India showcased an impressive performance on the second day of the 2026 World Para Athletics Grand Prix held in New Delhi. The nation secured multiple podium finishes in both track and field events. Sumit Antil clinched the gold medal with a remarkable throw of 69.25 meters.
The highlight of the day was the men’s javelin throw F43/F44/F64, where Indian athletes dominated the podium. Sumit Antil took first place, while Pushpendra Singh and Poonam Ram secured silver and bronze medals with throws of 56.91 meters and 49.48 meters, respectively.
India continued its strong showing in the men’s 400 meters T13, with Subodh Bhatt winning gold in 51.88 seconds. Priyanshu Kaushik followed closely to win silver in 53.19 seconds, while Avanil Kumar completed the race in 56.91 seconds to take home the bronze. In the men’s 400 meters T46/T47, Bhavik Kumar Dinh Barwad claimed gold with a time of 49.89 seconds, while fellow Indian Jasbir finished in 50.09 seconds to secure silver. Serbia’s Ivan Kvetkovic won bronze with a time of 50.93 seconds.
The men’s wheelchair category for the 400 meters T53/T54 also saw Indian athletes excel. Manoj Kumar Sabapati won gold in 54.33 seconds, Anil Kumar took silver in 57.57 seconds, and Manikandan Jothi finished in 1:01.94 to win bronze.
In women’s events, Indian athletes also delivered stellar performances. Tejalben Amaraji Damor won gold in the women’s 400 meters T11/T12 with a time of 57.53 seconds. Lalita Kilaka secured silver in 1:07.92, and Shalini Chaudhary completed the podium sweep with a bronze in 1:16.79.
In field events, Laxmi won gold in the women’s shot put F36/F37/F40 with a throw of 7.76 meters. Akutai Sitaram Ulbhagat earned silver with 5.49 meters, while Bhutan’s Chimi Dema took bronze with 5.27 meters. India also dominated the men’s long jump T42/T63, where Shailesh Kumar won gold with a jump of 5.47 meters. Ramsinhbhai Govindbhai Padhiyar secured silver with 4.68 meters, and Solairaj Jagannathan won bronze with 3.23 meters.
In the men’s shot put F46, another clean sweep occurred, with Rohit Kumar winning gold with a throw of 14.35 meters. Devendra Singh Gurjar took silver with 13.97 meters, and Lokesh Akula claimed bronze with 10.92 meters. India continued its excellent performance in throwing events, with Sahil Salim Sayyed winning gold in the men’s discus throw F51/F55 with a distance of 36.83 meters. Sukchain earned silver with 30.49 meters, and Sudhir took bronze with 28.78 meters.
In the men’s javelin throw F12/F13, Manjeet won gold with a throw of 57.86 meters. Pratik Amritrao Patil secured silver with 50.43 meters, and Irfan Diwan claimed bronze with 45.39 meters. India also dominated the men’s javelin throw F40/F41, where Sunil Kumar won gold with a throw of 32.58 meters, Prince Kumar took silver with 31.23 meters, and Kathir Dhanasekaran won bronze with 18.73 meters.
