Nagoya, Japan, September 26 (Daily Kiran) : President Droupadi Murmu extended her congratulations to Indian athletes for their remarkable performances at the Asian Games 2026, held in Nagoya, Japan. The Indian men’s kabaddi team clinched a gold medal, while shot putter Tejinderpal Singh Toor and runner Prachi Chaudhary also made headlines with their achievements.
On Saturday, the Indian women’s kabaddi team secured a thrilling 37-34 victory over Iran, earning the gold medal. Shortly after, the men’s kabaddi team triumphed against Iran with a score of 40-34 in the final match, marking a significant moment for Indian kabaddi.
In a message shared on her official X handle, President Murmu praised the men’s kabaddi team, stating, “Heartfelt congratulations to our men’s kabaddi team for winning the gold medal and successfully defending their title at the Asian Games 2026. With the women’s team also winning gold, India has achieved a ‘golden sweep’ in kabaddi. This historic double victory showcases the teams’ skill, resilience, determination, and excellent teamwork.”
Tejinderpal Singh Toor, a two-time defending champion, earned a silver medal in the men’s shot put final at the Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium, with a throw of 20.06 meters. This marks his third consecutive medal at the Asian Games.
President Murmu congratulated Toor, saying, “Heartfelt congratulations on winning the silver medal in the men’s shot put event at the Asian Games 2026. Your powerful throws and consistent performance reflect your strength, skill, and dedication.”
Meanwhile, Prachi Chaudhary achieved a bronze medal in the women’s 400-meter race, finishing with a time of 53.21 seconds. The President commended her efforts, stating, “Congratulations to Prachi Chaudhary on winning the bronze medal in the women’s 400-meter race at the Asian Games 2026.
