India Taxi Launches Services in Mumbai, Boosting Urban Transport

Mumbai, April 24: Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal inaugurated the driver onboarding campaign for India Taxi in Mumbai. This initiative is seen as a significant step towards enhancing urban transport and improving the livelihoods of drivers.

Hundreds of auto-rickshaw and cab drivers, along with representatives from transport unions and cooperatives, participated in the event.

Goyal emphasized that cooperative and technology-based models will play a crucial role in strengthening India’s evolving transport system. He highlighted that India Taxi integrates drivers as partners, providing them with digital tools for transparency, better earnings, and dignified work opportunities.

The minister also stated that such models will shape the future of urban transport. According to the Ministry of Cooperatives, the initiative aims to increase access to digital platforms, enhance transparency, and create better earning opportunities for drivers.

This onboarding campaign is part of a broader plan to strengthen driver-centric mobility systems in major cities. By ensuring a simple onboarding process, improved operations, and consistent ride demand, this initiative seeks to create a sustainable and inclusive system for both drivers and passengers.

Mumbai has now joined the ranks of cities like Delhi-NCR, Gujarat, Chandigarh, and Lucknow, where organized mobility networks are rapidly expanding.

Vivek Pandey, COO of India Taxi, remarked that Mumbai is a vast market full of potential, and the support from local driver unions is encouraging for the company’s expansion.

Recent data indicates that over 517,000 drivers are connected to the platform, with more than 5 million customers and approximately 1 million rides completed each month.

According to the ministry, this expansion aligns with Amit Shah’s vision to extend India Taxi’s reach to all major cities in the country within the next three years, with Mumbai being a crucial step in this direction.
