India Shines at Commonwealth Games 2026 with 39 Medals

Glasgow, August 2: The Commonwealth Games 2026 concluded in Glasgow, running from July 23 to August 2. India secured a total of 39 medals, comprising 13 gold, 17 silver, and 9 bronze. Male athletes contributed 23 medals (5 gold, 13 silver, 5 bronze), while female athletes won 16 medals (8 gold, 4 silver, 4 bronze).

India showcased its prowess in eight sports: athletics, artistic gymnastics, lawn bowls, boxing, judo, swimming, track cycling, and weightlifting. Additionally, Indian athletes participated in five para-sports: para athletics, para powerlifting, para swimming, para track cycling, and 3×3 wheelchair basketball.

In athletics and para athletics, the country earned 16 medals, including 3 gold, 7 silver, and 6 bronze. Male athletes won 13 medals (2 gold, 7 silver, 4 bronze), while females secured 1 gold and 2 bronze.

Long-distance runner Gulveer Singh made history by winning silver in the men’s 10,000 meters and bronze in the 5,000 meters, becoming the first Indian track and field athlete to win two medals in a single Commonwealth Games edition.

India emerged as a boxing powerhouse, clinching 7 gold medals out of a total of 10 medals in the sport. Female boxers captured 5 gold and 1 silver, while male boxers contributed 2 gold and 2 silver medals.

In judo, India displayed remarkable talent. Asmita Devi and Harsh Singh both won gold medals, marking the first time Indian judokas achieved this feat at the Commonwealth Games. India secured 4 medals in judo (2 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze), with women winning 3 medals (1 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze) and Harsh Singh winning the only men’s gold.

In weightlifting, India earned 8 medals. Mirabai Chanu was the sole Indian to win gold in this sport. The men’s team secured 4 silver medals, while women won 1 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze.

In para powerlifting, India won its only bronze medal. Jhandu Kumar achieved this in the men’s heavyweight category with a best lift of 190 kilograms.
