Raipur: India has made history in T20 cricket by becoming the first full member nation to chase down a target of over 200 runs with the highest number of balls remaining. On Friday, India achieved the target of 209 runs against New Zealand with 28 balls to spare in the second T20 match.
Pakistan holds the second position on this list, having chased 205 runs against New Zealand in 2025 with 24 balls remaining. Australia follows closely, having won against West Indies in 2025 with 23 balls to spare.
India is now ranked second among countries with the most successful chases of 200+ run targets, having accomplished this feat six times. Australia leads with seven such successful chases. South Africa, Pakistan, and England are positioned third, fourth, and fifth respectively with five, four, and three successful chases.
India’s previous notable successful chases include the 209-run target against Australia in 2023 and a 208-run chase against West Indies in 2018. Other significant achievements are the 207-run chase against Sri Lanka in 2009, 204 runs against New Zealand in 2020, and 202 runs against Australia in 2013.
After losing the toss, New Zealand batted first and scored 208 runs for six wickets. Captain Mitchell Santner was the top scorer with 47 runs off 27 balls, while Rachin Ravindra contributed 44 runs. For India, Kuldeep Yadav took the most wickets with two, supported by one wicket each from Hardik Pandya, Harshit Rana, Varun Chakravarthy, and Shivam Dube.
In response, India reached the target in 15.2 overs, losing two wickets early on at the score of 6. Ishan Kishan played a brilliant innings, scoring 76 runs off 32 balls with 4 sixes and 11 fours.
