India Must Choose Its Oil Supply Source Amid Global Crisis: Russian Ambassador

New Delhi, March 5: Russian Ambassador Denis Alipov urged for dialogue to resolve ongoing conflicts in West Asia during a press conference in India on Thursday. He expressed concerns over rising global fuel prices due to the potential closure of the Hormuz Strait.

Alipov emphasized that, amidst increasing oil prices, the decision on whom to choose for supply must be made by India, even though Moscow has always been ready to supply oil to India.

“The solution always lies in dialogue. The conflict must end as soon as possible,” he stated.

When asked about the duration of the war, he replied, “I have no idea. You should ask America.”

In light of speculations regarding the possible closure of the Hormuz Strait, Alipov reiterated, “The decision on supply and supply sources is for India to make. We have always been prepared to supply oil to India.”

On February 28, Russia condemned the unprovoked attacks by the U.S. and Israel on Iran, stressing the urgent need to return to political and diplomatic solutions.

The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed that Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Iranian counterpart, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, had a phone conversation at Iran’s initiative on Saturday.

Following the call, a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry said, “The Iranian minister informed about the steps taken by Iranian leadership to prevent U.S. and Israeli attacks, which have once again disrupted negotiations for a peaceful resolution of the Iranian nuclear program. He also announced plans to convene an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council.”

Lavrov condemned the unprovoked armed attack by the U.S. and Israel on Iran, which violates principles and standards of international law, completely disregarding serious consequences for regional and global stability and security. He emphasized the need to immediately halt attacks against the Islamic Republic of Iran and to return the situation to a political and diplomatic resolution.

According to the statement, Lavrov indicated that Russia is ready to assist in finding a peaceful resolution based on international law, mutual respect, and a balance of interests at various forums, including the United Nations Security Council.

The conflict in West Asia escalated when the U.S. and Israel jointly launched airstrikes against Iran, aiming to weaken Tehran’s missile capabilities and extensive military infrastructure.

The initial actions of this campaign resulted in the deaths of several senior Iranian leaders, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In retaliation, Iran conducted widespread drone and missile strikes targeting U.S. bases, regional capitals, and allied forces in West Asia.
