India Critiques OHCHRs Double Standards at UN General Assembly
India raises concerns over OHCHRs selective approach and demands a report on human rights violations in Pakistan-administered Kashmir.

United Nations, October 15 (Daily Kiran) : During the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, India voiced strong concerns regarding the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR). First Secretary Anuj Swaroop highlighted the selective approach and double standards exhibited by the OHCHR during an interactive dialogue with the human rights chief. He also called for a report on human rights violations in Pakistan-administered Jammu and Kashmir.
Swaroop emphasized India’s constructive and positive role as a member of the Human Rights Council. He noted that the OHCHR’s focus on selective issues undermines public trust in the multilateral system. India reiterated its commitment to work collaboratively with the High Commissioner.
India demanded that the OHCHR release a report addressing various issues in Pakistan-administered Jammu and Kashmir. These include impartial investigations into killings by security forces, legal rights for detained leaders of the Awami Action Committee, and the lifting of internet restrictions in the region.
The Indian representative urged Pakistan to reflect on the human rights violations occurring in its illegally occupied territories. He stressed that ensuring the protection and respect for human rights is a responsibility that all nations share, and that fairness and transparency are crucial in this regard.
Previously, at the UN Disarmament Conference, India had sent a clear message to Pakistan regarding terrorism. Senior advisor Anmol Sher Bedi stated that India would not be intimidated by nuclear threats related to terrorism. He affirmed that any terrorist attack against India would be met with a strong response, emphasizing that there would be no distinction between those who support terrorism and those who orchestrate it.
Bedi referenced “Operation Sindoor,” which was launched in response to a terrorist attack in Pahalgam that resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians at the hands of Pakistani terrorists. He clarified that India acted in self-defense, taking balanced and precise measures to prevent further escalation.
