New Delhi, August 26: India and Argentina have recently strengthened their trade relations. According to Mariano Cossin, Argentina’s ambassador to India, trade between the two countries reached ₹4.127 billion in the first seven months of 2026.
Ambassador Cossin shared this information via a post on the social media platform ‘X’, stating, “Argentina is reinforcing its trade relationship with India, continuing the trend of recent years. During the first seven months of 2026, India became our fifth largest trade partner, with trade reaching $4.335 million between January and July.”
In an exclusive interview with a news agency, he mentioned that the economies of India and Argentina complement each other. Following the elevation of bilateral relations to a strategic partnership, both countries are working towards achieving various goals.
On Monday, during a tribute event for General José de San Martín held in New Delhi, he remarked, “The relations between the two countries are very good. Argentina and India enjoy trade relations exceeding $6 billion. We (India and Argentina) are doing great work together. Both economies are complementary.”
He also noted that Argentina is a founding member of Mercosur and that there is a consensus among members to work with India on expanding the Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA).
Ambassador Cossin stated, “Argentina is a founding member of Mercosur, an economic trade bloc comprising Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay. Therefore, to establish such agreements, we need to collaborate with other Mercosur countries. There is generally good consensus among members to work with India to expand the current agreement, which is limited to certain products. I am optimistic about this.”
