New Delhi, March 30: India and Russia held a consultation meeting between their foreign ministries. During this meeting, they reviewed their special and privileged strategic partnership and discussed bilateral, regional, and global issues of mutual interest.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko co-chaired the foreign office consultation.
Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared on the social media platform ‘X’, stating, “The India-Russia foreign office consultation was held on Monday in New Delhi, co-chaired by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko.”
He added, “Both sides reviewed the full spectrum of the special and privileged strategic partnership and exchanged views on bilateral, regional, and global issues.”
Earlier, on March 17, India and Russia conducted the 7th United Nations consultation in New Delhi, focusing on issues related to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) agenda. Key topics included counter-terrorism measures, peacekeeping, UNSC reforms, and more.
Jaiswal mentioned on ‘X’, “Both sides exchanged their priorities at the UN. The main focus of the discussion was on issues related to the UNSC agenda, particularly counter-terrorism measures, peacekeeping, UNSC reforms, and other subjects.”
On March 11, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar spoke with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov over the phone, discussing the ongoing conflict in West Asia and the expansion of bilateral relations.
This conversation occurred amid ongoing conflicts in West Asia, which escalated following U.S.-Israeli attacks on February 28. In response, Iran launched drone and missile strikes targeting U.S. assets, regional capitals, and allied forces in West Asia.
It is noteworthy that Russian President Vladimir Putin visited India for a two-day state visit in December. During this visit, he held formal talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and reviewed the status of the India-Russia partnership, which has been designated a strategic partnership for 25 years.
Following this discussion, the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit was held, during which both sides issued a joint statement outlining priorities for the coming years. Cooperation in energy, nuclear power, trade, defense, and technology emerged as key areas of focus.
