New Delhi, April 28: India’s Secretary (West) C.B. George met with China’s Special Envoy Liu Zhenmin to enhance cooperation on climate issues. The discussion focused on the global climate agenda.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared the meeting details on the social media platform ‘X’, stating, “India’s Secretary (West), Ambassador C.B. George, met with China’s Special Envoy on Climate Change, Liu Zhenmin, to exchange views on the global climate agenda.”
The post further emphasized, “India is fully engaged and has been playing a constructive and proactive role in advancing global climate action, including the multilateral climate process under the UNFCCC and its Paris Agreement.”
On the same day, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh held a significant meeting with Chinese Defense Minister Admiral Dong Jun in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The two defense ministers discussed regional security and mutual cooperation. It is believed that during this high-level dialogue, they addressed the current security situation in Asia and measures to maintain stability in the region. They also discussed strengthening communication mechanisms to reduce tensions and improve coordination in border areas.
Rajnath Singh is in Bishkek to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Defense Ministers’ meeting. This crucial meeting is addressing issues like regional security, cooperation against terrorism, and strengthening defense relations among member countries. He mentioned plans to hold bilateral meetings with other defense ministers during his visit to further enhance mutual cooperation.
Notably, this meeting comes at a time when India-China relations have been strained in recent years. A violent clash occurred between the two nations’ forces along the Line of Actual Control in Eastern Ladakh in 2020, leading to a significant decline in bilateral relations and mutual trust. However, several major initiatives have been taken in recent years to normalize relations.
