New Delhi, April 3: The High Commissioner of Bangladesh to India, M. Riaz Hamidullah, met with Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi on Thursday in New Delhi. The discussions focused on enhancing defense cooperation, including joint training initiatives.

Both officials also explored opportunities for deeper collaboration to promote regional peace and security.

The Indian Army’s Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADGPI) posted on the social media platform ‘X’, stating, “The High Commissioner of Bangladesh, M. Hamidullah, met with Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi. During the talks, they considered enhancing bilateral defense cooperation, including joint training initiatives. They also explored opportunities for deeper collaboration aimed at promoting regional peace and security.”

Minister of State for External Affairs, Kirti Vardhan Singh, reiterated on March 26 that India warmly welcomes the new government of Bangladesh, emphasizing the deep historical, cultural, and linguistic ties that bind the two nations, providing a special closeness and warmth to their relationship.

Speaking at the National Day celebration organized by the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi, marking the country’s 56th Independence Day, Singh noted that the sacrifices made during the 1971 Liberation War and the struggle against exploitation, oppression, and hatred constitute a shared heritage for both India and Bangladesh.

He stated, “These deep ties of solidarity form the foundation of our bilateral partnership, based on trust, shared values, and a commitment to peace, stability, and prosperity in the region. Our partnership has always focused on the interests of our people, aiming to improve the daily lives of our citizens. Whether it is expanding connectivity through rail, road, inland waterways, and energy networks, or promoting trade and facilitating the movement of goods and people, our cooperation has always aimed at delivering tangible benefits.”

He added that India and Bangladesh are building a partnership that is strategic, people-centric, robust, and forward-looking.

“Our progress reflects the enduring spirit of developed cooperation through sustained efforts from both sides. Development partnerships, capacity-building initiatives, and cross-border projects have been driven by mutual priorities and a shared vision for inclusive development.”
