Mumbai, April 26: The music industry is undergoing rapid transformation. Previously, singing in films was considered the primary platform for artists. Now, many singers and musicians are gravitating towards independent music. Renowned Sufi singer and composer Mujtaba Aziz Naza shared his views on this evolving trend in a recent conversation.
He explained why artists are increasingly drawn to independent music and expressed his belief that AI can never truly grasp the essence of music.
In the discussion, Mujtaba Aziz Naza stated, “Independent music allows artists the freedom to express themselves openly. In films, the creation of a song involves the input of many people, including directors, producers, and composers, each with their own opinions and expectations. In such an environment, artists often struggle to convey their true feelings and thoughts. However, in independent music, artists do what their hearts desire. There is no pressure here, and they can create music according to their preferences.”
Mujtaba Aziz Naza further noted, “This is why many artists are rapidly moving towards independent music. Social media has made this transition easier. Previously, artists had to rely on major banners and the film industry to reach audiences, but now they can share their songs directly with people over the internet.”
He also addressed the growing use of AI in the music industry. He remarked, “AI can certainly assist in many tasks, but it can never understand the soul of music. Music is not just a combination of notes and melodies; it encompasses human emotions, pain, love, and spiritual connections.”
When asked whether AI could ever comprehend the depth of Sufi music or Qawwali, Naza replied, “Human creativity knows no bounds. Machines operate within set limits, while humans create new things from their experiences and emotions. Some feelings can only be perceived by the human heart, and those emotions make music special.”
He added, “Nowadays, the issue of mimicking artists’ voices through AI is also on the rise. If an artist’s voice is being used, they should receive their due rights. This is a serious issue, and the music industry needs to address it promptly.”
