Hanumangarh, September 26 (Daily Kiran) : Independent MLA Ganeshraj Bansal from Hanumangarh has been granted bail by the District and Sessions Court in a lease fraud case that dates back 23 years. The court accepted his bail application on Saturday, following a rejection from the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court just a day earlier.
The CJM Court had dismissed Bansal’s bail plea and also denied a request for a seven-day additional police remand by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). After completing a four-day police remand, the CID presented Bansal to the CJM Court on Friday, seeking another week of custody. The court refused this request and placed him in judicial custody.
Following the CJM Court’s denial, Bansal’s legal team quickly filed a plea in the District and Sessions Court, which led to his release on bail after a hearing on Saturday. In total, Bansal spent four days in police custody and one day in judicial detention. The courtroom during the hearings was packed with supporters, lawyers, and members of the public.
Bansal, along with his wife and former municipal council president Santosh Bansal, as well as former executive officer Bhawarlal Soni and plot owners Krishna Rani and Rajrani Chugh, faced charges filed by the police on September 17.
The allegations state that in 2003, the Hanumangarh Municipal Council issued lease agreements for plots number 8 and 16 in Sector 9L of Hanumangarh Junction. Investigations revealed discrepancies between the information recorded in the lease deeds and the official records of the municipal council.
Authorities claim that government land was misrepresented as private property, resulting in improper leases that caused significant revenue loss to the government, amounting to several crores of rupees. The CID is currently investigating the case.
Bansal was taken into custody in Bikaner on September 19 and arrested after questioning on September 20. He was presented in court on September 21, where the CID was granted a four-day remand. After this period ended, he was brought back to the CJM Court before finally being granted bail by the District and Sessions Court on Saturday.
