Imran Khan Ordered to Leave India Amid Controversy Over Protest Participation
Actor Imran Khan faces a notice to leave India after participating in a protest, prompting a response from his partner.

Mumbai, October 16 (Daily Kiran) : Actor Imran Khan has received a notice from Mumbai police and the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) mandating his departure from India. This development follows his participation in a protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, held on October 10 at August Kranti Maidan.
During the demonstration, Khan was briefly detained by the Mumbai police. Subsequently, BJP leader Kirit Somaiya lodged a complaint against him, leading to the FRRO and Mumbai police issuing the notice under alleged violations of immigration and foreign laws.
In response to the notice, Khan’s partner, Lekha Washington, shared a photo of him from a police van on social media, captioning it simply with “just” and several heart emojis.
Khan plans to challenge the FRRO’s notice in the Bombay High Court. He is considering filing a writ petition and has appointed MJDML Legal LLP for legal representation. When contacted, Zulfiqar Memon, managing partner of MJDML Legal, declined to comment on the case.
Notably, Khan, who was born in the United States and holds American citizenship, is the nephew of actor Aamir Khan. He has been residing in Mumbai for several years but does not have Indian citizenship, only holding an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card.
Under Indian immigration laws, foreign nationals and OCI cardholders are prohibited from participating in political movements, rallies, or protests. Khan has been instructed to leave the country by October 28 for allegedly violating this regulation.
