IISc Director Highlights AIs Potential and Ethical Concerns at Adani University Graduation

IISc Director Govindan Rangarajan discusses the potential and ethical challenges of AI at Adani Universitys graduation ceremony.

Ahmedabad, October 31 (Daily Kiran) : At the Adani University graduation ceremony held on October 31, 2026, IISc Director Govindan Rangarajan emphasized the vast potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in education and scientific research. However, he also raised important questions about truth, trust, and human connections in the age of AI.

Speaking to the graduating class, Rangarajan stated, “AI offers immense possibilities for education and research. It can assist us in solving complex problems and accelerating scientific discoveries. Yet, we must remain aware of its implications.” He pointed out that as images, videos, and information can be generated with remarkable accuracy, discerning what is true becomes increasingly challenging. Furthermore, as technology brings us closer digitally, it raises the concern of whether we are becoming more distant from one another. He urged the audience to embrace AI’s capabilities while thoughtfully considering what might be lost.

During the ceremony, Adani University conferred 374 degrees to the 2026 batch. Ten students were recognized for academic excellence, receiving medals that included five gold, three silver, and two bronze.

Dr. Preeti Adani, Chairperson of Adani University, presided over the event and welcomed the chief guest. She expressed gratitude for Rangarajan’s presence, citing his significant contributions to mathematics, research, and academic leadership as an inspiration for the graduates. “We are working towards making Adani University a leading research-based institution,” she noted.

Discussing the relationship between industry and education, she emphasized that the goal is not merely for industries to dictate academic curricula. Instead, real-world challenges can highlight questions that neither sector can address alone. She remarked, “India has built remarkable infrastructure on a large scale. Now, we must learn to innovate broadly and develop new ideas.” She encouraged students to work on innovations that could benefit the most marginalized communities.

In his annual report, Provost Dr. Dhaval Pujara highlighted the contributions of faculty, staff, students, and industry partners. He outlined efforts to strengthen the academic foundation, foster a research-oriented environment, and collaborate more closely with industry and society.

Established in 2022, Adani University focuses on education, practical training, and research aligned with industry needs. Its long-term goal is to evolve into a multidisciplinary institution that contributes to India’s development and nation-building.
