Human Rights Organization Raises Alarm Over Forced Disappearances of Baloch Women in Pakistan

Quetta, March 25: A prominent human rights organization has expressed deep concern over the ongoing forced disappearances of Baloch women, particularly in light of actions taken by the Pakistani military.

The Baloch National Movement’s human rights department, known as ‘Pank’, reported that 23-year-old student Mahjabeen Baloch was abducted by Pakistani forces on May 29 of last year.

The organization highlighted that Mahjabeen’s disappearance, following the immediate abduction of her brother, Yunus Baloch, indicates a targeted approach against family members, suggesting a pattern of collective punishment in the region.

According to the human rights group, Yunus was released after enduring severe torture, but there has been no trace of Mahjabeen since her abduction.

“Pank” stated, “Forced disappearance is a grave violation of international human rights law, depriving individuals of legal protection and subjecting their families to ongoing suffering.”

The organization has called on Pakistani authorities to release Mahjabeen immediately and unconditionally, demanding transparency regarding her condition and whereabouts without delay.

In the context of rising violence in the province, “Pank” condemned the alleged extrajudicial killing of Muhammad Amir, a resident of Mastung district, in a fake encounter.

This incident has been described as another alarming example of violence perpetrated by Pakistani authorities in Balochistan.

According to the victim’s family, personnel from Pakistan’s Frontier Corps (FC) raided their home in the Killi Karaj Sor area of Mastung on the eve of Eid, forcibly taking Muhammad outside and shooting him dead.

The family stated, “No arrest warrant was shown, no police report was filed, and no evidence was presented to justify the action.”

“Pank” emphasized that this incident is part of a broader pattern of enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings, asserting that such actions constitute serious violations of fundamental human rights, including the right to life, due process, and protection against arbitrary detention.

The organization has called for immediate transparency and accountability regarding this murder, raising serious legal and ethical questions.

“Pank” urged Pakistani authorities to conduct an independent and impartial investigation into the incident and to ensure that those responsible are held accountable under the law.

The organization also appealed to international human rights bodies to pay urgent attention to the situation in Balochistan, warning that it could lead to increased violence and suffering among civilians.
