Quetta, March 18: The Baloch Yekjehti Committee (BYC) has expressed serious concerns regarding human rights conditions in Pakistan’s Balochistan province. The organization held a seminar in Karachi to highlight the alleged “arbitrary detention” of Baloch leaders and the deteriorating situation in the region.
According to the BYC, this event is part of a month-long awareness campaign aimed at opposing the suppression of independent voices in Balochistan, the misuse of legal frameworks, and the increasing restrictions on democratic activities.
The campaign seeks to amplify the voices of affected families, raise public awareness, and strengthen collective efforts for justice and accountability.
Speakers at the seminar voiced their worries about human rights violations, the suppression of peaceful political activities, and the ongoing decline of democratic rights in Balochistan. The BYC claims that several leaders, including its chief organizer Mehrang Baloch, have been detained for over a year.
The organization highlighted the prolonged and alleged illegal detentions of leaders such as Bebarg Baloch, Sibghatullah Shah Ji, Gulzadi Baloch, and Bebow Baloch as examples of this troubling issue.
The BYC noted that these policies have severely impacted families with missing or detained members, subjecting them to mental stress and uncertainty.
The organization also accused authorities of prosecuting leaders under “false cases” in anti-terrorism courts. Detained leaders expressed distrust in the judicial process during a court appearance on February 7, demanding a fair hearing.
The BYC has appealed to Pakistan’s judiciary, the legal community, and the Balochistan Bar Council to take this matter seriously and ensure fair and transparent justice in accordance with the law.
The organization reiterated that the release of detained leaders and the restoration of political freedom are fundamental rights, and their struggle for these rights will continue.
