Raipur, August 15: On this Independence Day, nine villages in Abujhmad, Chhattisgarh, proudly hoisted the national flag for the first time since gaining freedom. This momentous occasion symbolizes a historic breakthrough for communities long overshadowed by Naxalite violence.
Police officials reported that residents from the villages of Koraskodo, Hachekoti, Adanar, Boter, Kumanar, Diwalur, Gundekot, Rekapal, and Rasmeta celebrated this event with pride and enthusiasm, liberated from decades of fear.
These remote villages were once among the most Naxal-affected areas, serving as hideouts and operational centers for top Naxalite leaders. Due to the prevailing atmosphere of fear, celebrating national festivals or hoisting the flag was considered risky for the residents.
However, the situation changed after March 31, 2026, when the region was declared free from Naxalite influence. Officials noted that this Independence Day marked the first opportunity for villagers to hoist the national flag with full respect and collective joy.
