SP Leader Azam Khan Sent to Judicial Custody in Money Laundering Case
Azam Khan, a leader of the Samajwadi Party, has been remanded to judicial custody for 14 days following his arrest in a money laundering investigation.

Ghaziabad, November 1 (Daily Kiran) : Mohammad Azam Khan, a prominent leader of the Samajwadi Party, has been placed in judicial custody for 14 days following his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money laundering case linked to Mohammad Ali Jauhar University. This decision was made by the Ghaziabad MP-MLA court on November 1.
Khan’s lawyer, Danish Ali, confirmed to reporters that the court has ordered his client to remain in custody until November 13. The ED has requested further custody for additional questioning.
The arrest occurred just a day after the ED temporarily seized properties worth approximately ₹426.46 crores associated with the university in Rampur district, Uttar Pradesh. This action is part of an ongoing investigation into allegations of money laundering involving the Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar Trust, Khan, and others.
Khan’s legal troubles escalated despite a recent temporary relief granted by the Allahabad High Court, which suspended his sentence in a separate dual PAN card case and granted him bail on Thursday.
In the money laundering investigation, the ED has seized university assets currently valued at around ₹1,170 crores. The university, located in the Jauhar Nagar area of Singan Khera village in Rampur, is owned by the Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar Trust, which Khan established and operates. He also serves as the honorary chancellor of the institution.
The investigation was initiated based on 26 FIRs filed at the Azeem Nagar police station in Rampur, alleging that agricultural land belonging to farmers was forcibly acquired for the university. Furthermore, the district administration’s inquiry revealed that the university had taken possession of approximately 34 acres of enemy property, despite the land lease being canceled. The land was later reclaimed through the enemy property custodian via the district administration.
