
Shimla, March 19: The Himachal Pradesh Assembly has approved a supplementary budget of ₹40,461.95 crore for the fiscal year 2025-26. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu presented the budget, which received unanimous approval from the house. Alongside this, the Himachal Pradesh Appropriation Bill, 2026, was also passed.
This supplementary budget places a strong emphasis on the state’s development initiatives, disaster relief, and various social programs. Out of the total budget, ₹36,374.61 crore has been allocated for state schemes, while ₹4,087 crore is earmarked for centrally sponsored programs.
The largest portion of the state schemes, ₹26,194.95 crore, is designated for salaries, pensions, and other financial liabilities. Additionally, ₹4,150.14 crore has been allocated to strengthen the power sector. This funding will be used to increase electricity production, repair transformers, and implement financial reforms related to the electricity board.
To address natural disasters, ₹818.20 crore has been set aside, while ₹785.22 crore is allocated for water supply and sewage projects. The health sector has also been prioritized, with ₹657.22 crore earmarked for Himcare, the Sahara scheme, robotic surgery in medical colleges, and the development of modern diagnostic facilities.
For infrastructure development, ₹555.89 crore has been allocated. This amount will fund projects such as a vegetable market in Shimla, a shopping complex in Hamirpur, new bus stations, the Khaleeni flyover, and an underground utility duct from Chhota Shimla to Villy Park. Furthermore, ₹453.63 crore has been designated for roads, bridges, and rural connectivity. The Himachal Road Transport Corporation will receive a grant of ₹443.33 crore in exchange for passenger concessions.
To strengthen education and sports infrastructure, ₹244.31 crore has been allocated, along with ₹221.53 crore for the honorarium of Anganwadi workers and social schemes. Under central schemes, ₹2,453.97 crore is allocated for disaster management, ₹688.40 crore for the Prime Minister’s Rural Road Scheme, and ₹352.18 crore for compensation to those displaced by the Renukaji Dam.
The government asserts that this supplementary budget will play a crucial role in accelerating development projects, enhancing disaster management, and effectively delivering benefits to the public.
