Thiruvananthapuram, March 21: The political landscape in Kerala is heating up ahead of the elections. Congress leader and Alappuzha MP KC Venugopal has accused the BJP and CPI(M) of engaging in a ‘secret agreement,’ stirring controversy in the state. He stated that the truth is now out, with Palakkad emerging as the focal point of this dispute.
Venugopal alleged that the CPI(M) supporting independent candidate NMR Rajak, a hotelier, is a clear indication of their internal understanding with the BJP. “This is not limited to Palakkad; similar alliances are visible in several other constituencies,” he remarked.
Congress candidate and popular actor Ramesh Pisharody backed these claims, labeling the BJP-CPI(M) alliance as an ‘open secret.’ He emphasized that this understanding is evident not only in Palakkad but also in other regions. Pisharody also mentioned that he would refrain from inviting his film friends for campaign events, citing concerns over cyber attacks.
He expressed confidence that the controversy surrounding Rahul Mamkuthil would not impact the election results.
The Palakkad seat has become one of the most talked-about contests this election cycle, featuring a triangular battle. Besides Pisharody, BJP leader Shobha Surendran and CPI(M)-backed candidate Rajak, known for their business ventures, especially in biryani, are also in the fray.
In response to the allegations, Shobha Surendran dismissed them as Congress’s desperation. She stated, “It seems Congress and its leadership have now accepted that they are losing and we are winning.”
Opposition leader VD Satheesan also commented on the matter. He claimed that discussions about this alleged secret pact are surfacing, affecting not just Palakkad but around ten other seats as well. He accused the CPI(M) of aiding the BJP, which in turn supports them, citing the Chengannur seat as an example.
