Mumbai, 16 August – Continuous heavy rainfall since Friday night has caused waterlogging in several low-lying areas of Mumbai and its suburbs. In the Park Site area of Vikhroli, a landslide resulted in the tragic deaths of two members of the same family, while two others sustained injuries.

The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for Saturday, forecasting heavy rainfall in Mumbai city, suburbs, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg. Related agencies have been instructed to remain vigilant.
Since Friday night, Mumbai has experienced incessant rainfall. Waterlogging has been reported in low-lying areas such as Andheri Subway and Dadar Gandhi Market, impacting road traffic. In some parts of Vile Parle, houses have been flooded, disrupting daily life. Train services on Central Railway have also been delayed by 15 to 20 minutes in some areas due to water accumulation on the tracks.
In Vikhroli Park Site, a landslide in Jan Kalyan Society, Varsha Nagar, caused stones to fall on a hut, injuring four people. All the injured were taken to Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar, where two were declared dead. The deceased have been identified as Shalu Mishra (19) and Suresh Mishra (50). Arti Mishra (45) and Rituraj Mishra (20) are undergoing treatment.
Between Friday night and Saturday morning, the following rainfall was recorded: Vikhroli – 248.5 mm, Santacruz – 232.5 mm, Sion – 221 mm, Juhu – 208 mm, Bandra – 173 mm, Byculla – 158.5 mm, Chembur – 127.5 mm, and Colaba – 70.4 mm.
