Chennai, August 6: The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds in parts of four districts in Tamil Nadu on Thursday and Friday. Additionally, moderate rainfall is expected in several other districts over the next few days.
According to the weather forecast, heavy rain is likely in Coimbatore, Theni, Tirunelveli, and the hilly areas of Nilgiri on Thursday and Friday. The department attributed this rainfall to a weak atmospheric circulation prevalent in the lower troposphere of northern Tamil Nadu’s coastal regions.
In particular, increased rainfall activity is anticipated in the Western Ghats and surrounding districts. The Meteorological Department has cautioned that heavy rain with strong winds may occur in all four districts, especially in hilly and ghats areas. Residents and travelers in vulnerable regions have been advised to stay alert to rapidly changing weather conditions.
Rainfall is expected to continue through the weekend. On Saturday, heavy rain may occur in certain areas of Theni, Tenkasi, and Tirunelveli districts.
Meanwhile, moderate rainfall is likely to persist in several districts, including Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, Ranipet, and Vellore, until Sunday. Similar weather conditions are also expected in Tirupattur, Tiruvannamalai, Viluppuram, Tiruchirappalli, Karur, and Madurai districts.
Isolated showers may occur in other parts of Tamil Nadu as moisture-laden winds and local atmospheric conditions remain conducive for sporadic downpours.
In Chennai, partial cloud cover is expected on Thursday evening or night, with moderate rain possible in some areas of the city. The maximum temperature may reach around 36 degrees Celsius. The rain could provide temporary relief from the hot and humid weather prevailing in the city, although daytime temperatures are expected to remain relatively high.
The Meteorological Department indicated that maximum temperatures in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are likely to stay close to normal levels during this period. Over the next few days, rainfall in the state is expected to be concentrated mainly in the Western Ghats and some parts of northern and interior Tamil Nadu, while isolated showers may occur elsewhere.
