Chandigarh, June 15: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini stated on Sunday that the greatness of any society is measured not by its economic prosperity, but by how it treats its weaker, helpless, and marginalized members. He emphasized that a truly progressive and compassionate society is one that cares for its underprivileged citizens.
The Chief Minister was addressing the 346th monthly widow ration and assistance distribution ceremony held in Ludhiana, Punjab. During the event, he announced a financial aid of 1.1 million rupees for the Gyaan Sthal Mandir Seva Society.
While paying homage to the late Lala Jagat Narayan, CM Saini remarked that he dedicated his entire life to patriotism, social harmony, and humanitarian service. He noted that Lala Jagat Narayan made the ultimate sacrifice for the unity and integrity of the nation. The legacy of service, dedication, and commitment to national interests left by Lala Jagat Narayan is being carried forward today by the Gyaan Sthal Mandir Seva Society and the Lala Jagat Narayan Nishkam Seva Samiti.
The Chief Minister highlighted that the service initiative started by the late Jagdish Bajaj in 1997 has now evolved into a large-scale public welfare movement. Providing continuous support to needy widowed mothers and sisters for 346 months is a remarkable achievement.
He also praised the organization for dispatching the 64th truck carrying relief materials for families affected by terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. To date, the organization has distributed rations to over 165,000 needy widowed families. During the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, volunteers from the organization reached out to help families in need.
Additionally, the society has provided 385 tricycles to persons with disabilities, distributed over 115,000 sewing machines to women, and offered computer education to more than 25,000 children to help shape their bright futures.
The Chief Minister stated that the organization’s efforts extend beyond mere assistance distribution. It is actively working to empower women and youth towards self-reliance. Its initiatives promoting skill development and self-employment act as catalysts for positive social change.
CM Saini mentioned that the Haryana government is implementing various welfare schemes for the social, economic, and educational empowerment of mothers, sisters, and daughters. Widowed women in the state receive a monthly pension of 3,200 rupees. Under the Deen Dayal Lado Lakshmi Scheme, eligible women receive 2,100 rupees monthly, while the Har Ghar-Har Grihini Scheme provides LPG cylinders at 500 rupees.
He added that women are being economically and socially empowered through several initiatives, including the Chief Minister’s Marriage Shagun Scheme, the Lakhpati Didi Campaign, and programs aimed at strengthening self-help groups and ensuring women’s safety and education.
Furthermore, the state has opened 81 new colleges, 31 of which are exclusively for girls. The state government is also providing free education to girls up to the postgraduate level to help them achieve self-reliance through education.
