Harshit Rana Credits Father for Batting Focus, Not Gautam Gambhir

Vadodara, 12 January – Indian cricket team’s fast bowler Harshit Rana has clarified the source of his batting skills, attributing it to his father rather than head coach Gautam Gambhir. Over the past year, the right-arm pacer has performed well across all formats and has also been given opportunities to bat, which many believed was encouraged by Gambhir.

After India’s victory against New Zealand in the first ODI at Vadodara, Harshit Rana spoke to BCCI TV about his batting. He revealed that his father was the one who initially encouraged him to focus on batting. “My father has always paid attention to my batting from the beginning. He believes that all-rounders get early opportunities in the Indian team, so alongside bowling, he has constantly worked on my batting,” Rana said.

Rana also shared a personal moment, saying, “My father calls me after every match. Sometimes when I get out early, scoring just 20 runs, I feel nervous about how to talk to him.” This statement clearly shows that his focus on batting started at a young age, strongly influenced by his father’s guidance.

In the match against New Zealand, Rana made a significant contribution with both ball and bat. He bowled 10 overs, conceding 65 runs and taking two wickets. Later, he scored 29 runs off 23 balls, helping India chase down the target of 301 runs comfortably in 49 overs for the loss of six wickets.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Rana said the team is grooming him as an all-rounder so that he can provide valuable runs in the lower order when needed. The match saw Virat Kohli scoring 93 runs and earning the Player of the Match award.
