Hacker Group Claims to Have Obtained Sensitive SBI Customer Data

An unknown hacker group claims to have accessed sensitive customer information from the State Bank of India, raising cybersecurity concerns.

New Delhi, October 20 (Daily Kiran) : An unidentified hacker group, operating under the name ‘Siriusim’, has claimed to have acquired sensitive customer information from the State Bank of India (SBI). This data reportedly includes personal details, loan applications, and account opening documents.

Cybersecurity monitoring account Cyberpals 56 highlighted this claim in a post on the social media platform X. According to the post, the group allegedly possesses 375,000 data entries in CSV format and 2,722 PDF documents linked to the country’s largest public sector lender.

The reported leaked dataset is said to contain personal information of customers, including residential addresses, loan applications, supporting documents, and other related records. Cyberpals 56 first reported this claim on October 16, stating that Siriusim had presented this material as the initial disclosure of their dataset.

However, the authenticity of the alleged data leak and its source have not yet been confirmed. The reported number of entries does not clarify how many individual customers may be affected, as multiple records could pertain to a single individual.

There has been no independent verification that SBI’s systems were breached or that the documents originated directly from the bank. The Economic Times reported on October 20 that SBI had not responded to emails seeking comment at the time of publication.

Cyberpals 56 warned that if the dataset proves authentic, the information could be misused for identity theft, financial fraud, targeted phishing attacks, and fraudulent loan applications.

This allegation has emerged amid widespread concerns regarding cybersecurity risks impacting India’s financial sector. However, the claim does not inherently prove that SBI’s systems were compromised, as the bank has yet to comment on the hackers’ assertions.

Earlier this year, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) intensified cybersecurity requirements for commercial banks as part of broader efforts to strengthen the banking system against digital threats.
