Gujarat Unveils 101 New Food Distribution Centers for Workers

Gujarats Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurates 101 new food centers to support workers, aiming to serve 45,000 meals daily.

Ahmedabad, October 16 (Daily Kiran) : Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel of Gujarat inaugurated 101 new food distribution centers on Friday, October 16, 2026, as part of the Shramik Annapurna scheme. The launch took place in Ahmedabad’s Chanakyapuri and Ghatlodia areas under the “Seva Sankalp Abhiyan.”

With these additions, the total number of centers operating under the scheme has risen to 372. Following the inauguration, Patel personally served meals at one of the centers in Ahmedabad, where workers lined up for food. He took turns serving each individual.

The state government has decided to extend affordable meal services not only at Kadiya Naka but also at construction sites. Collaborating with organizations like BAI and CREDAI, the government plans to implement food delivery directly to these locations. According to Gujarat’s Secretary of Labor, Lochan Sheher, there are plans for further expansion of the initiative.

Managed by the state’s Labor, Skill Development, and Employment Department, the Shramik Annapurna scheme aims to provide nutritious meals at low prices to construction workers, thereby reducing their daily food expenses. Under this initiative, cooked meals are offered at just ₹5.

The meals typically include roti, vegetables, dal, rice, pickles, chilies, and jaggery. Additionally, sweets like “sukhdi” and “sheera” are served once a week. To date, the program has successfully provided meals over five crore times.

The introduction of these 101 new centers is expected to increase daily meal distribution by 10,000, bringing the total to approximately 45,000 meals served each day. The scheme also enables direct food delivery to construction sites where more than 50 workers wish to utilize this service.
