Gujarat Giants Set 168-Run Target Against Mumbai Indians in WPL

Vadodara: Gujarat Giants have set a target of 168 runs for Mumbai Indians in the 19th match of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026. The game, played at the BCA Stadium, is crucial for both teams to keep their playoff hopes alive.

After winning the toss on Friday, Gujarat Giants chose to bat first and scored 167 runs for the loss of four wickets in the allotted overs.

The opening partnership between Beth Mooney and Sophie Devine yielded 21 runs in just 2.2 overs. However, Mooney was dismissed cheaply for 5 runs. Anushka Sharma then joined Devine to add 48 runs for the second wicket in 43 balls. Sharma contributed 33 runs off 31 balls, including one six and four fours.

By 10.1 overs, the Giants had lost Devine’s wicket as well; she scored 25 runs from 21 balls with three boundaries.

Captain Ashley Gardner and Georgia Wareham formed a strong fourth-wicket partnership, scoring 71 runs in 43 balls. Gardner played a quick innings of 46 runs from 28 balls, hitting one six and seven fours. Wareham remained unbeaten on 44 runs off 26 balls, striking two sixes and four fours.

From the Mumbai Indians’ bowling side, Amelia Kerr took two wickets for 26 runs, while Shabnim Ismail and Nat Sciver-Brunt took one wicket each.

Under captain Harmanpreet Kaur, Mumbai Indians took the field with players including Hayley Matthews, Sajivan Sajna, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Amanjot Kaur, Amelia Kerr, Rahila Firdous (wicketkeeper), Sanskriti Gupta, Vaishnavi Sharma, Shabnim Ismail, and Poonam Khemanar.

Gujarat Giants played with Beth Mooney (wicketkeeper), Sophie Devine, Anushka Sharma, Georgia Wareham, Bharti Fulmali, Kanika Ahuja, Kashvi Gautam, Tanuja Kanwar, Renuka Singh Thakur, and Rajeshwari Gayakwad along with captain Ashley Gardner.
