Jaipur, April 15: The ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Women’s Conference’ took place at the Birla Auditorium in Jaipur on Wednesday. During the event, Member of Parliament Manju Sharma emphasized that the idea of reserving seats for women dates back to the time of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
She noted that during her tenure as the chairperson of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, she took initiatives in this direction.
Sharma explained that the spirit of the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Act’ reflects this vision. This historic legislation will provide women with 33 percent reservation in Parliament and state assemblies, ensuring their meaningful participation in governance, policymaking, education, and security-related decisions.
She stated that this law will empower women to play a crucial role in realizing the dream of a ‘Developed India.’ Sharma urged women to join this campaign and express their support for the law.
She highlighted Prime Minister Modi’s belief that true progress for the nation is only possible with active participation from women in every sector. Women have always held a special place in society, and now they are contributing significantly across various fields.
Sharma also shared information about several welfare schemes initiated by both the central and state governments aimed at empowering women.
Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma addressed the conference, stating that unprecedented efforts have been made to empower women since 2014 under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership.
He mentioned key initiatives such as the ‘Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana,’ ‘Namo Drone Didi Scheme,’ and ‘Lakhpati Didi,’ which have economically and socially strengthened women.
Sharma noted that campaigns like ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ have improved the gender ratio, while the ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’ has brought dignity to women by providing toilets in homes.
He added that under the ‘Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana,’ homes are registered in women’s names, and the ‘Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana’ provides clean cooking fuel.
In Rajasthan, over 2 million women have received skill training, resulting in more than 1.6 million women becoming ‘Lakhpati Didis.’ Additionally, the Ladli Incentive Scheme has benefited over 650,000 girls. The financial aid under the Prime Minister’s Maternal Assistance Scheme has been increased from ₹5,000 to ₹6,500, benefiting around 400,000 women.
Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari stated that the core of governance at both the central and state levels is women’s empowerment. She described the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Act’ as a historic reform that provides 33 percent reservation for women in Parliament and state assemblies for the first time since independence.
She asserted that this law will bring about significant social change, ensuring that women’s perspectives are prioritized in policymaking and governance.
At this event, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, Minister of State for Women and Child Development Manju Bagmar, MP Manju Sharma, and Principal Secretary Poonam Sahay, along with a large number of women and students, participated in a signature campaign supporting the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Act.’
