Jamnagar, October 9 (Daily Kiran) : In a significant ruling, a special POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) court in Jamnagar, Gujarat, has sentenced a man to death for the brutal murder of an eight-year-old girl. The court described the case as one of the “rarest of rare” incidents, citing the severe nature of the crime, which included prolonged physical abuse, burning with matchsticks, and repeated assaults with an iron pestle.
The accused, identified as Nitin Manek from Sikka in Jamnagar district, was found guilty of murder and received the death penalty. In addition to the capital punishment, he was also sentenced to life imprisonment under the POCSO Act and fined ₹50,000.
The crime occurred in 2025 in Sikka, initially going undetected until police launched an investigation. Manek was identified as the suspect and subsequently arrested. Authorities collected scientific, technical, and documentary evidence, filing a charge sheet in court within 35 days of the incident.
During the trial, the prosecution examined 23 witnesses and presented nearly 95 documentary pieces of evidence before the POCSO court. After considering the evidence and circumstances surrounding the crime, the court issued the death sentence for the murder, alongside additional penalties under the POCSO Act.
Following the verdict, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi commended the police team and the judiciary for their swift action. Officials stated that under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s leadership, the Gujarat government is committed to a zero-tolerance policy against crimes targeting women and children. This ruling reflects the urgency and seriousness with which such heinous crimes are prosecuted in the state.
