Ranchi, March 28: The celebration of Lord Ram’s birth festival, Ram Navami, brought a wave of devotion across Jharkhand on Friday. The state’s capital, Ranchi, along with various towns and villages, witnessed grand processions adorned with saffron flags and captivating floats.
As the procession commenced at 3 PM in Ranchi, a sudden downpour added to the fervor of the devotees. Despite the rain, the chants of “Jai Shri Ram” echoed as participants, including traditional wrestlers and devotees, energetically showcased their skills while heading towards the ancient Tapovan Temple in Doranda, where the procession was set to conclude by 10 PM.
This year, the streets of the capital showcased an extraordinary display of women’s empowerment. Members of the ‘Nari Sena’ donned saffron turbans and wielded swords and sticks, performing alongside men in a show of unity. The convergence of nearly 1,700 processions from various akhadas culminated at Mahavir Chowk and Firayalal Chowk, where the sky was painted saffron as the massive flags passed by. Numerous camps were set up to serve devotees, offering khichdi, halwa, sherbet, and sweets.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren visited the Tapovan Temple to offer prayers and extended his best wishes to the people of Jharkhand for Ram Navami. Notable figures, including Union Minister of State for Home Affairs and Ranchi MP Sanjay Seth, showered flower petals on the participants of the procession.
Hazariabagh’s Ram Navami celebration is renowned worldwide for its unique traditions, marking the 108th year of the procession. Millions flocked to witness the floats, which will continue until Sunday evening. Other districts, including Jamshedpur, Bokaro, Dhanbad, and Dumka, also organized grand parades under tight security. Ranchi’s security was overseen by SSP Rakesh Ranjan, with drone surveillance in sensitive areas and over 500 CCTV cameras monitoring the city from a control room.
